Overwhelming
Hypnotic and unholy
We cannot look away
Or see beyond
Conquests besetting
Rivalries
Begatting grudges
In the minds of fathers
Passed to sons
Chronicled in history
With more reverance
Than the wars
That spawned them

Great drama
And I understand
The field vision
It catches me
Off guard
Blitzed on the weak side
You might say
I understand the opiate
The potential of both
Man and moment

I'm just not sure
What has been won
Once the dust and chaos
Finally settles
