Where Did The Tulips Go

One breath removed
From the lotus fields
Numbing fragrance
Anesthetized sky
Falling in warm puddles
And waking dreams
These petals of violet and gold
Yesterday’s treasure
Today’s carcass
Trampled beneath souls

The day was so clear
So sunny
It promised to last forever
But after descending
Into what I hoped
Was eternal slumber
Clouds were summoned
Skies darkened
The air froze in place
And I awoke
To a winter scene

I felt cheated
Like always
Wallowing in so much
Unburied death
Not sure what went wrong
Or what I might do
But pick myself up
Like all the times before
And push through the gravity
Of right now
Hoping another garden gate
Awaits my impending storm
