We are children
She and I
Forever searching out
Playgrounds amongst rivers
Haunted forests
Caverns and lines of tracks
Leading us astray

Had our kayak surrounded
By the great gray dolphin
Swam with slow motion rays
Sharks and were guests
To sea turtle guiding tours
Of shipwrecked museums

Climbed the steps
Of buried cities
Now home to blue scorpions
And stared across jungle tops
From sacrificial platforms

Dropped like spiders
On mad made webs
Into cavernous mouths
To climb underground waterfalls
Witness sparking chambers
Of unimaginable crystal architecture
And we have paid
An unmentionable price
In the halls of Xibalba

Through any hell
Or heaven
Awaiting our footsteps
Blood and wonderment
Until our bodies lie broken
As always
We are up for anywhere
